McKINLEYVILLE –
Tiffany Turner and
Amber Hebb earned All-CCAA honors for the second straight year,
Tiffany Dinh earned Freshman of the Year honors and the Cal Poly Pomona women's cross country team finished third at the CCAA Championships on Saturday.
Turner completed the 6,000-meter route at Beau Pre Golf Course in 22 minutes, 41.6 seconds to finish sixth. Hebb earned a top-10 finish by placing ninth in 23:03.4.
“We're enjoying a successful season and improved from fourth last year to third,'' said Broncos head coach
Troy Johnson. “We had the potential for a top-2 finish and we figured that third was within our grasp going in.
“A solid effort on the day and we'll be ready to compete again in two weeks at regionals.''
Dinh placed 17th and was the top freshman finisher at 23:42.2.
Junior
Sarah Garcia finished 25th in 24:04.7 and freshman
Lauren Parr completed the Broncos' top five by placing 42nd (24:45.9).
Other Broncos and their times include: junior
Elizabeth Soria (46th – 24:52.1); senior
Denise Salceda (57th – 25:15.5) and freshman
Johanna Murray (70th – 25:57.9).
"Tiffany and Amber went out right away and competed well on a rather, demanding course,'' assistant coach
Tony Reyes said. "I thought the course might have favored Tiffany a bit because there were a few hills out there that were difficult. Tiffany Dinh ran a very solid race and Sarah (Garcia), I know, was pleased with finishing in the top 25. We ran well and it showed.''
Chico State placed four four runners in the Top 10 and earned the team victory with 33 points.
The Wildcats, who were led by senior Julie Shaw, totaled 33 points to finish ahead of second-place UC San Diego, which posted 84 points. Cal Poly Pomona (91) was third and followed by Cal State L.A. For the second year in a row, Cal State L.A. senior Vivien Wadeck captured the individual title in 21:52.6 to out-pace UC San Diego's Bre Schofield (22:13.5).
