POMONA – Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball coach Greg Kamansky has announced that Rancho Cucamonga native Justin Long and Connor Gacek of Issaquah, Wash., have signed national letters of intent to study and play at CPP next fall.

“These two young men are competitive, hard-nosed and come from excellent prep programs,'' Kamansky said. “Each of them has tremendous upside and we're pleased to have them become part of our program.''

Long, a 5-foot-11, 160-pound senior at RCHS, averaged 26 ½ points, six assists and four rebounds last season for the Cougars. He was a first-team All-Baseline League selection and earned second-team CIF honors.

“Justin is a great signing for us,'' Kamansky said. “We consider him to be one of the top players in the Inland Empire. He's a very exciting player and comes from a well-coached program that coach Bill Burke has developed. We expect Justin to be an impact player down the road.''

Gacek (pronounced GOTCH-ick) started last season at guard for Skyline High School, located in the suburb southeast of Seattle. The 6-3 senior played outstanding summer ball and also has tremendous upside, according to Kamansky.

“We think Connor's best basketball is ahead of him,'' Kamansky said. “His competitiveness and skill-set is a sound fit for our program. He can really shoot the ball and he passes well. He also comes from a well-coached program and will be a welcome addition.''

The sixth-ranked Broncos open the 2009-10 season Saturday night at Westmont. The Broncos' home opener is against The Master's College on Nov. 24. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
