STANFORD – Senior Jersain Torres was the third fastest Division II runner at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, finishing 29th overall in 25 minutes flat over the 8,000-meter Stanford Golf Course.
Torres, who was last week's CCAA Runner of the Week, ran a 5:02 split in the just less than five miles race.
Junior Stephen Kent ran a season-best 25:32 (5:09 split) and finished 52nd for the Broncos, who placed ninth out of 18 teams with 275 points.
Host Stanford won the event with a perfect 15 points.
Making up the final field for CPP was: 59th junior Matt Prentice 25:39; 72nd senior Mariano Baez 25:49; 116th Josa Lara 26:27; 141st Jose Marquez 27:05; and 143rd junior Michael Najera 27:08.
The women were led by senior Tiffany Turner, who was the eighth top Division II runner in the field and 65th overall. She ran the 6,000-meter course in 22:35, a split of 6:04 against the 3.72-mile event.
Junior Sarah Garcia cracked the top 100 with a sound 23:11 and placed 93rd, while freshman Tiffany Dinh was 96th in 23:18. Junior Amber Hebb placed 101st in 23:21 (6:16).
Junior Elizabeth Soria finished 132nd (23:56), senior Denise Salceda 163rd (25:00) and freshman Lauren Parr was 166th (25:07).
The women finished 17th with 426 points.
The Broncos next compete Oct. 3 at the Pomona Pitzer Invite.
