Another preseason poll featured CPP at No. 1, a day before the Broncos play Duke.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On the eve of an exhibition matchup at Duke, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team snagged the No. 1 ranking in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC)/Division II preseason poll. Earlier in the preseason, the Broncos were announced as the No. 1 team in the D-II Bulletin after being ranked fifth by the Sporting News.
The organization's announcement on Wednesday featured Indiana (Pa.) at No. 2 in the NABC preseason poll while Findlay, the 2009 title winner, holds the third spot. Aside from CPP, the only other West Region squad that was included in the top 25 was 10th-ranked Seattle Pacific, while BYU-Hawaii, Cal State San Bernardino and Central Washington are receiving votes outside the initial group.
As the 2010 NCAA postseason began and the final NABC/D-II poll was released, the Broncos weren't even included in the top 25. Just before that poll debuted, CPP had lost in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament to CSUSB. The Broncos then proceeded to win its next six games, capped off with a 65-53 victory over Indiana (Pa.) to capture the national title.
On Thursday at 4 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, CPP will challenge Duke in an exhibition contest at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Broncos will then return to Pomona and prepare for their official season-opener at home against Pacific on Nov. 17. Tipoff for that game is 7:30 p.m.
