KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Cal Poly Pomona head men's basketball coach
Greg Kamansky has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) West Region Co-Coach of the Year, the organization announced this week.
Kamansky, who will lead his Broncos to their second straight Elite Eight appearance next week in Springfield, Mass., and their fourth in the last eight years, shares the honor with Western Washington University's Brad Jackson.
"Recognition by one's peers is the greatest form of appreciation,'' said Kamansky, who has led CPP to a school-best two-year run of 50-14. "I am blessed with two assistants in
Bill Bannon and
Damion Hill and together, we have had a tremendous amount of success with quality young men to coach. Without those two men, this recognition wouldn't be the same.''
The region honor is Kamansky's second in two years. Earlier this season, he was named CCAA Coach of the Year for the third time in his 10 years at the helm. He owns a career-record of 203-87 -- an average of 20 wins a season.
The Broncos (25-6) will play St. Joseph's (Ind.) in the opening round of the NCAA Elite Eight on March 24. The two teams tip-off at 6 p.m. EDT/3 p.m. PDT.
The game will be audio cast and web cast at
