LA JOLLA – Cal Poly Pomona crowned three individual champions and one relay champ as the Broncos competed in the final day of competition at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track and Field championships, hosted by UC San Diego.
All-American Jonathan Williams won the 100 meters in 10.74 seconds and the 4 x 400 relay team comprised of Corey Arnold, Matthew Boudreau, Jacob Deavers and Carter Griffin won the final event of the day in 3:13.83.
Chico State totaled 290.5 points en route to a seventh straight CCAA Championship. UCSD racked up 140 points for second, followed by the Broncos (130), Cal State Stanislaus (103.5), Cal State L.A (98), and Humboldt State (98).
Sophomore Kyle Wolff captured the women's 800 meters in 2:16.71 and senior Ileana Tejada won the hammer throw at 168-3 to improve upon her school record by more than four feet (163-10 in 2008).
Chico State won the women's team with 212 1.3 points, followed by the host Tritons with 209 ½. Cal State L.A. finished third with 101.33 points, while San Francisco State was fourth with 81.50 and Cal Poly Pomona tallied 64 to place fifth. Cal State Stanislaus (53.33), Cal State Dominguez Hills (50), and Humboldt State (47) finished sixth through eighth, respectively.
Williams came back to finish second in the 200 (21.25) and Griffin placed second in the 400 (47.77).
Deavers placed second in both hurdles events – the 110 highs (14.81) and the 400 intermediates
(53.67). Deavers joined Michael Hernandez, Williams and Griffin on the runner-up 4 x 100 relay (41.23).
Hernandez finished third in the triple jump (45-1 ¾) and also picked up points in the 110 hurdles (4th) and javelin (7th).
Senior Andrew Miller was the runner-up in the pole vault (15-9 ¼) and placed fourth in the javelin (174-3).
Those individuals who place in the top three and the winning relay teams earn All-CCAA status.
Senior Tokkie Adeniji was the only other Bronco to earn All-CCAA status on Saturday when she placed third in the 400 (55.45) and earned team points in the 200 (7th) and ran legs on the fourth-place 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.
