POMONA – Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Swanson has named two finalists for the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball head coach position, the athletic department announced Thursday.

“We are fortunate that the number and depth of the applicant pool were substantive,'' Swanson said. “The search and screen committee has done an excellent job in selecting outstanding candidates to interview at Cal Poly Pomona.”

The candidates are:

Renee Jimenez – Cal State Monterey Bay head coach
Jimenez has coached the Otters the last two seasons. She led CSUMB to its best record in school history this past season with an 18-9 slate and tied for fourth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with victories over NCAA Tournament teams Humboldt State, UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona. Prior to CSUMB, she served three seasons as an assistant at San Diego State University and served a one-year internship at Stanford. She is a San Francisco State graduate.

Lynn Kennedy – Southern Oregon University head coach
In his five seasons with the NAIA-Raiders, Kennedy owns an overall win-loss record of 104-51 and is coming off a 20-11 season in 2009-10. SOU claimed the Cascade Conference title in 2007-08 and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament in two of the last three years. Kennedy previously served three years as head coach at NCAA Division II New Mexico Highlands University and one season at his alma mater, Northwest University, located in Kirkland, Wash.

Swanson anticipates the coaching search should be finalized early next month.
