POMONA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball head coach
Greg Kamansky announced Monday that Quentin Taylor has signed a national letter of intent to attend the university and join the Broncos' squad for the 2013-14 academic year.
Entering his senior season at Palm Springs High School, Taylor is on pace to pass the 1,000-point mark through his impressive career leading the Indians' basketball program.
"Quentin comes from a well-coached program and he's a tough competitor," Kamansky said. "He gives us not only a top-notch scorer but also a player who will bring us a lot of toughness on defense. His style of play and his strong academics are a perfect fit for our program."
As a junior, the 6-foot-2 guard averaged 18 points per game to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Taylor received The Desert Sun's Player of the Year honor along with earning a spot on the All-State Top 20 list for Division III. He also collected Desert Valley League Most Valuable Player and All-CIF First Team accolades.
Last year, Taylor scored a season-high 30 points in a December win over Twentynine Palms. He went 9-for-9 at the free throw line in that game and ended up shooting 82.1 percent (101-for-123) at the charity stripe through the 2011-12 season.
Taylor recorded four double-double performances last year, including a 29-point and 10-rebound showing in a 75-67 win over the highly-ranked Douglas High School of Nevada.
A two-sport star, Taylor captured a league title in the long jump this past spring as a member of the Indians' track and field squad. He also placed second in the triple jump at the DVL Championships.
