CHARLESTON, S.C. - A two-time All-Conference honoree during his time at Cal Poly Pomona,
Travis Taijeron is now a two-time All-Star in the New York Mets' minor league system.
Taijeron has been selected to participate in the 53rd annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game, league president Eric Krupa announced Tuesday. Charleston will host the game on June 19 at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
"Once again, the amount of talent that will be showcased in this game will be incredible," Krupa said. "The expectations of the fans are high, and I believe they will have a fun time during this exciting event."
Last year, Taijeron played at the short-season level with the Brooklyn Cyclones and finished with Player of the Week and All-Star honors for the New York-Penn League. He also received MiLB.com Organization All-Star accolades at the conclusion of 2011. Taijeron guided the Cyclones to the playoffs and finished with a .299 batting average while totaling nine homeruns and 44 runs batted in.

low-A level Savannah Sand Gnats, going 55-for-195 at the plate (.284) and knocking 11 homers to go along with 37 RBI. On May 7, Taijeron was named the SAL Offensive Player of the Week. Currently, the Sand Gnats hold third place in the league's South Division with a record of 33-23.
During his final season with the Broncos in 2011, Taijeron batted .542 over the final month to help CPP advance to the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and NCAA postseasons. He received Division II All-America recognition before the Mets selected him in the 18th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The
2012 MLB Draft is underway and several Broncos are in consideration to be selected. Wednesday marks the third and final day of the event and the action continues at 9 a.m. PDT with round 16.
