CLAREMONT, Calif. - With a series of stellar performances from senior student-athletes, the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team put together a strong showing Saturday at the Rossi Relays in Claremont.

Vincent Huitt, a senior from Downey, put together three top three finishes Saturday. He took second in the discus throw with a mark of 157-3 and posted another second-place finish in the hammer throw after recording a distance of 182-01.

For Huitt, the hammer throw performance earned him a "B" provisional qualifying mark - the first for the Broncos this season.

Another senior thrower, Shane Cioni, took first place in the shotput with a mark of 47-11.75. He also performed well in the discus, landing a distance of 155-8 to place third.

Senior Tanner Terry ran the 100-meter dash in 11.02, good enough for third place. Teammate Robert Weathers, a junior transfer from Glendale Community College, wasn't far off that pace as he crossed the line in 11.18.

Matt Boudreau continued his strong start to the 2013 campaign as he placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a 54.22 mark. Meanwhile, the CPP 4x400 relay produced a third-place finish with a time of 3:22.92.

The Broncos' distance group demonstrated its racing abilities, putting five runners in the top 16 finishers in the 3,000-meter run. Ryan Carrell led the way, taking first with a dominating 8:46.17 mark.

The Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's track and field teams will return to action Friday and Saturday when they host the Pomona Preview Meet at Mt. San Antonio College's Hilmer Lodge Stadium. For a complete schedule of the meet, click here (PDF).
