IRVINE, Calif. - Highlighted by an impressive hammer throw performance from
Andrew Durham, the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team excelled Saturday during day one of the Steve Scott Invitational held at UC Irvine.
A senior from Chico, Durham finished fourth in the hammer throw event with a provisional qualifying mark of 185-0. That distance puts him in fourth all-time in the Broncos' program record book and in a tie for fourth on this season's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) leaderboard. Durham's teammate,
Vincent Huitt, is also in the conference's top four for the same event.
Fellow fourth-year
Shane Cioni also competed in Saturday's hammer throw at UCI and finished eighth with a distance of 172-04, falling just shy of his season best.
Junior
Brian Luc registered his first 2013 mark in the javelin throw Saturday, posting a seventh-place distance of 142-04. That mark ranks fourth for the Broncos so far this season.
The CPP men's and women's track and field teams will continue action at the Steve Scott Invitational on Sunday starting at 12 p.m. The Broncos' postseason starts May 2 with the CCAA Championships to be held in Turlock on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus.
