NEW ORLEANS - The recognition and accolades continue to pile up for the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team as the Broncos are in the midst of their best season in more than 10 years.

Six CPP student-athletes have received NCAA Division II All-West Region honors for the 2013 season, U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) officials announced Friday.

National Championships qualifiers Connor Birtwhistle, Vincent Huitt and Justin Ellerbee were featured on the All-Region list alongside teammates Ryan Carrell, Shane Cioni and Andrew Roide. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region's top three have earned the All-Region distinction for this season.

The entire group helped the Broncos place second at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships earlier this month, marking the best conference finish for the program since 2006. Three Broncos captured individual conference titles as that trio featured Ellerbee in the pole vault, Cioni in the discus and Roide in the high jump.

Also at the CCAA Championships, Carrell finished third in the 10,000-meter event while Huitt placed third in the discus throw. Entering the NCAA D-II National Championships, Birtwhistle ranks 13th nationally in the decathlon, Huitt is at No. 12 in the hammer and Ellerbee holds the No. 6 ranking in the pole vault.

The D-II championship meet will be held from Thursday, May 23 through Saturday, May 25 in Pueblo, Colo. Colorado State Pueblo hosts the event at the Neta and Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl.
