PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After earning All-West Region honors last season, former Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball student-athlete
DeRonn Scott has gone on to play professional basketball for the Providence Sky Chiefs, who are a part of the American Basketball Association (ABA) Northeast Division.
The Sky Chiefs, playing in their first year in the ABA, are currently 6-1 on the season. Providence, ranking at No. 10 in the 76-team ABA Power Rankings, recently swept the San Diego Surf Invitational where they won three games in three days. Scott, a Rancho Cucamonga native returning to SoCal for the tournament, starred in the Surf opener as he hit a three at the buzzer to give the Sky Chiefs a 95-92 win over Oceanside. He had 16 second-half points, including the game-winner.
Overall in the tournament, Scott averaged 15 points, four rebounds and two assists. For the season, he has averaged 15 points, five rebounds and two assists.
After the 2013-14 campaign, Scott earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-West Region Second Team.
Scott, a Rancho Cucamonga native and Etiwanda High School graduate, led the Broncos to a 22-7 record as CPP finished second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular season before advancing into the second round of the NCAA postseason.
Recognized as a Daktronics All-West Region Second Team honoree, Scott finished the year with a scoring average of 14.3 points per game. He also proved to be a tremendous catalyst for the CPP offense, ranking fourth in the CCAA for assists per game with a 3.8 mark.
