Alex Kline returned to his alma mater on September 18th, 2023 as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications.
Alex is the primary media contact for Volleyball, Cross Country, Women's Basketball, and Baseball.
Cal Poly Pomona
In his role at Cal Poly Pomona, Kline oversees all aspects of sports information and communications for the Athletics Department’s 11 programs. He shares responsibilities with the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications on updating broncoathletics.com with the latest news, schedules, rosters, scores, statistics, and historical records, as well as producing all graphics and creative content posted on the department's social media. Kline also assists with game management for all home events, supervising dozens of student staff; including the production of the live stream on FloSports.
In January of 2024, Kline oversaw the launch of the
new CPP Athletics website. Working in partnership with SIDEARM Sports, Kline coordinated a redesign that focused on improved navigation on desktop and mobile, added creative features that celebrated the rich history of the department, and a visual refresh that coincides with the department's brand vision. In December of 2024, Kline helped cover the CPP women's soccer team en route to the program's first national title, and the 15th team title in department history. Kline provided media coverage at the national championship in Matthews, North Carolina, while also coordinating multiple interviews with ABC.
In April of 2025, Kline was named a CSC Designer of the Year
Finalist for the College Division (non-D1 schools), an award given out to the best graphic design portfolios among college athletics communicators. He went on to finish
7th nationally in the contest and was the highest-ranked designer on the West Coast in the College Division.
Kline is a member of College Sports Communicators (CSC), National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA), and is the West Region coordinator for D2CCA Baseball All-America.
Cal State San Bernardino
During Kline's lone year at CSUSB from 2022-23, the Coyotes saw six of their 10 programs make the NCAA postseason - including Final Four trips in both men's basketball and baseball. Kline covered both teams throughout their successful seasons, coordinating multiple interviews with national media outlets - such as ABC, NBC, and CBS - and providing coverage at the national championship events in Evansville, Indiana, and Cary, North Carolina, respectively.
Kline was responsible for all sports information and marketing efforts for CSUSB's 10 athletic programs, and made strides to unify the department's brand image. This included overhauling the department's social media to present a cohesive look across all of their team accounts, as well as launching the
new CSUSB Athletics website in the Fall of 2022.
Concordia University Irvine
From 2020-2022, Kline was an assistant in Concordia University Irvine’s sports information department. While at CUI, he introduced a marketing strategy that increased their social media following by 25% over the course of 18 months, 7% more than any other school in the PacWest Conference during that same period. This growth played a significant role in Concordia being named the 2021-22 PacWest Conference Sports Information Department of the Year. Kline also designed all digital and print media, captured in-game photos and video, managed the statistics for all of Concordia’s 24 sports, supervised student workers, and managed the department’s website.
In addition to contributing to the athletics department, Kline also earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Concordia in May 2022.
Other Work
Before joining CUI, Kline was the Brand Manager for Round2, a sporting goods app that allowed users to buy and sell sports equipment online. He oversaw all branding and marketing efforts of the company, including social media, creative content, app design and development, and community management. Since 2017, Kline has been a freelance digital marketer and graphic designer, working on projects for numerous companies, including: KW Commercial, Benji Johnson Catching, Ball Player’s Balm, Old North State League, California Building Consultants, The Club Baseball, and Todd Real Estate Solutions.
Education
Kline graduated from Cal Poly Pomona in 2019, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Computer Information Systems and a minor in Marketing Management. He was also a catcher on the Broncos baseball team, and was a member of two CCAA Tournament championship teams (2015, 2019) while making two NCAA Division II College World Series appearances (2015, 2016). Kline's Bronco squads compiled a record of 182-110 (.623) overall and 129-74 (.635) in CCAA play, while he posted a .992 fielding percentage, being charged with just four errors and throwing out 16 base runners in his career. Kline holds the school record for the best caught stealing percentage (.500) among CPP catchers in a single season.
