POMONA, Calif. - Chad Haysbert is set to join the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball program for the 2013-14 school year, head coach
Greg Kamansky announced Wednesday.
Haysbert, a 6-foot-9 and 230-pound forward, played the last two seasons at
American River College (ARC) in Sacramento after graduating from
Center High School in the same area of Northern California. He's shown a tremendous work ethic in the classroom, posting a 3.4 grade point average while at ARC.
"We're excited to have Chad as a part of our program," Kamansky said. "He's a long, athletic and versatile player that we look forward to working with. He's a good student and a high character person."
During Haysbert's sophomore campaign in 2012-13, he received All-Big 8 Conference First Team after guiding ARC to a 12-14 record and the program's first postseason appearance in three seasons.
While playing a few different positions for ARC, Haysbert averaged 13.3 points per game and shot 62.4 percent from the field. He also added per game averages of 8.5 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals.
Haysbert's lofty field goal percentage ranked seventh in the state and his rebound total of 213 proved to be the third-highest mark in the Big 8 Conference. As a freshman in 2011-12, Haysbert played in all 25 games and averaged 9.1 points on 57.4-percent shooting. He also added 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.
In other recruiting news for CPP, Kamansky announced the
signing of Quentin Taylor in November and the
signing of Jeremy Dennis in early May.
The memorable 2012-13 season featured plenty of firsts for the Broncos. In late February, Cal Poly Pomona secured its first-ever outright conference regular season crown. In early May, the Broncos captured the program's first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships tournament title.
With the team's overall record finishing at 28-3 overall, that win total matched the program record set by the 2009-10 national championship squad.
Kamansky, who will be entering his 14th year with the Broncos in 2013-14, now owns a career head coaching record of 270-110. He earned West Region Coach of the Year honors this past season while star guards
Mitchel Anderson and
Terrence Drisdom received All-American recognition.
